Buy My House

More than a dozen homeowners chanted, "buy my house, buy my house" as potential buyers stepped off the bus in the suburbs of Las Vegas. It seemed more like a rock concert than a house hunting expedition. The doe-eyed sellers reeked of desperation and lurked around hoping to obtain an autograph. The difference is the autograph they wanted was signature on a check.

It's rather surreal to see people carry "buy my house" signs as they parade up and down the sidewalk in front of their home. Never in a million years did I think I would board a charter bus on the quest for cheap homes for sale. Yet, there I was. Standing amidst a crowd of people acting as if we were rock stars and hoping we would be their savior.

Buying houses today is a lot different than it was just two years ago. I remember having to compete with dozens of buyers to purchase foreclosure and bank owned real estate. Today, there are dozens of homeowners vying for the attention of one buyer and you wouldn't believe the stuff they are willing to do to sell their house quick.

The carnival-like atmosphere included lemonade stands manned by adorable children dressed in their Sunday-best. Balloons graced the mailboxes of each house for sale. As I walked through the homes my nostrils became saturated with the smell of freshly baked cookies and breads.

I couldn't help but think the fanfare was nothing more than a fa├žade to mask the pain and suffering. Although the homeowners seemed happy to see us, you could see the sadness in their eyes and the strain on their faces. Having your home ripped away from you takes a toll on your mind, body and spirit.

The homeowners residing in that Vegas community aren't any different than the millions of Americans who are struggling to make their monthly mortgage payment. Perhaps you are one of them. If so, I might be able to help.
